Visiting AEGEE-Sarajevo

[Logo of AEGEE-Sarajevo] Life goes on, even after a horrible war. In March 1996 I went to Sarajevo, in order to visit the members of the newly founded AEGEE-Sarajevo - and in order to take a close look at the "city in the headlines". I saw a rapidly changing place. On the outside life returned to Sarajevo in an incredible speed - the face of the city changed much faster than in Tuzla. New shops everywhere, among them many of the prestigous western companies. What remained however, where the memories of four years of a fight for survival. Stories of darkness, run, no water, bullets and hunger.

[Towers in Sarajevo] [Sarajevo panorama] [Cemetary] [Snipers warning]

Signs of destruction: the "twin towers" close to the railway station. Second picture: view from a hill. Two years ago making this picture would have been impossible - this place was under constant fire. Sarajevo, once olympic city, is now the city of cemeteries. On this one on the right most victims were young people. Take care: snipers. A sign at the wall, which has hopefully lost its meaning.

[Library from inside] [Library from outside] [School without wall]
The famous library of Sarajevo - from outside and inside. Destruction everywhere: the building on the right was a school.

[IFOR soldiers] [Members of AEGEE-Sarajevo]
The IFOR made Bosnia a lot safer. Here two Russians take picture of each other. Finally: some of the members of AEGEE-Sarajevo. In the middle: Gorana, President of AEGEE-Sarajevo.
